Pioneering the development of Cross Reality Immersive Learning for Training and Education

The world is moving fast, and technology is evolving all the time.

One of the most exciting developments in the learning sector is Cross Reality, which combines Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality AR), virtual worlds and the physical environment to deliver a more immersive, more engaging, and more effective learning experience.

At UniHouse, we’re positioning ourselves to be at the forefront of this wave of technological change.

We’re currently working with leading global technology partners to produce innovative and immersive Cross Reality technology that will revolutionise learning for languages and career development.

What are the benefits of Cross Reality technology for career development training?

Cross Reality can be used to create an immersive and engaging learning experience that appeals to all different types of learning styles.

The technology enables instructors and coaches to go beyond simply telling and showing students material in their physical environment and allows students to actually experience material in a virtual environment that engages all of their senses.

This hands-on, multi-sensory experience not only helps students engage with material – it can also help students retain information better than traditional learning methods.

By combining Cross Reality immersive learning with smartphone and desktop applications to track progress, it’s easy for students to learn at their own pace – with their development being measured and recorded in a way that doesn’t make them feel like they are being tested.

But it’s not just about technology. It’s about the application of technology.

We’re at a point where the technology exists to support Cross Reality immersive learning.

But to create truly effective learning experiences for languages and careers, it needs the right people to steer the application of this exciting technology.

At UniHouse, we’ve been delivering technical training, career, and language education since 1999.

We know what works.

We know what doesn’t.

By combining our training, career, and language expertise with some of the leading global technology partners, we’re confident we’re going to be at the forefront of the technological transformation of training and education.

Workplace Immersive Skills and Language Experiences (WISLE) is the working name for the Cross Reality project being pioneered by UniHouse, in collaboration with leading technology partners.

WISLE will use a cross platform approach to immersive learning, with students encouraged to use a VR headset alongside a supporting app (compatible with android and iOs devices) and an online dashboard to help monitor performance and progress.

In addition to the unique combination of VR, AR and virtual worlds to enhance the learning experience, a major USP of WISLE is the addition of Artificial Intelligence (AI).  AI will be used within the project to help aid speech recognition and provide ongoing real-time feedback within the virtual environment.

The video below shows you one use case of how WISLE will be applied to a specific application.

What are the use cases for Cross Reality Immersive Learning?

Cross Reality can help to deliver an immersive, engaging learning experience that helps students retain information better than traditional learning methods.

There isn’t an industry or learning topic that wouldn’t benefit from these advances in technology. Cross Reality makes learning more engaging and effective, and its application will benefit all learning programmes.

But some of the most significant business developments coming from Cross Reality will be in situations where it is currently impractical, time consuming or expensive to accommodate ‘hands on’ training.

Imagine someone training to be an expert in aviation, that lives hundreds of miles away from the nearest aviation centre.

Reading about aviation tools and equipment and a textbook would give them the background knowledge and context – but not the confidence to use them in a real-world setting.

Watching videos about how to use aviation tools and equipment might bring things to life a little more – but there still wouldn’t be any real-world experience.

But trying to arrange ‘real-world’ training can be expensive and time consuming. With the student living hundreds of miles away, it would be a significant investment in both time and money to arrange the travel and accommodation to enable them to experience aviation tools and equipment in a physical environment.

With WISLE, the aviation student could get the benefit of the textbook learning, enhanced by augmented reality. They could get the benefit of video training – but in an immersive 360° environment. They could benefit from realistic Virtual Reality training on how to use tools and equipment, that gives them that real-world confidence.

That’s the power of Cross Reality Immersive Learning.
